Carl Sandburg
Being born is important
You who have stood at the bed posts
and seen a mother on her high harvest day,
the day of the most golden of harvest moons for her.
You who have seen the new wet child
Dried behind the ears,
swaddled in soft fresh garments,
pursing its lips and sending a groping mouth
toward nipples where the white milk is ready.
You who have seen this love’s payday
of wild toiling and sweet agonizing.
You know being born is important.
You know that nothing else was ever so important to you.
You understand that the payday of love is so old,
So involved, so traced with the circles of the moon,
So cunning with the secrets of the salts of the blood,
It must be older than the moon, older than the salt.
I’ve been married to a most awesome man since 1978. We’ve been living in the east valley for over 20 years; home-schooling, home-birthing, and raising a menagerie of kids and animals. We have 7 children, birthed naturally and by degree moving away from the hospital to homebirth for the last 2. I loved being pregnant, from the anticipation of first kicks to that powerful feeling of slippery new baby coming up on my belly. I loved the euphoria of breast-feeding and gazing into those wise eyes. It gives me great pleasure to educate, assist, and encourage women to not only give birth well, but also embrace and enjoy mothering.
My passion now is encouraging and empowering mothers. It begins with pregnancy and birth. Birth is important. I love what I do!
"Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior…teaching what is good, that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children…" Titus 2:3
